Looking strikingly similar to GameLoft’s NFL 2010, word has reached us that EA is actually releasing an iPhone version of Madden 2010 that is unaffiliated with the yet to be released console companion app. People on the fence about buying NFL 2010 will definitely want to wait around for the release of of the EA version which is “promised” to hit the App Store on or before NFL opening day. We will see if that holds true or not as EA has yet to release the companion app they said would be available on August 18th.
At any rate, Madden 2010 for the iPhone will boast some features not found in GameLoft’s 2010. Such additional features include: Adjustable game speeds, hot routes, audibles, full roster management that includes trades and free agents, and authentic stadium settings. Sounds mighty robust to me. No word yet on price but I’m guessing it will start at $10. Enjoy these tight roster updated pics.
Trying to squeeze some more cash out of its shooting gallery, Metal Gear Solid Touch is on sale in the App Store for the next two days for only $3. That’s a whole $5 off the standard price. While complaints have been abound in regards to the game being unfinished and merely name recognition cash in, this may be the time to buy if you are a MGS die hard or have been curious about the game. The graphics still look sweet but the core offering of what MGS fans are accustomed to as far as stealth action is concerned has been lost in translation. Once Saturday the 15th gets here the game will return to it’s normal price at $8.
The early 90’s “king of action” makes his presence known yet again with this newly released iPhone version of Duke Nukem 3D. On sale for just today at a low price of $2.99, the games boasts a total play time of about 20 hours. That’s huge in comparison to other high profile games that are more expensive and play much shorter.
Looking sharper than its old school counterparts such as Doom and Wolfenstein, the graphics still feel archaic at best and very 1991. If you take a look at the video you will see that a new play mechanic has been developed, letting you use both sides of the screen to control your movements while you tap the screen where your aiming reticule is to shoot at the enemy. Good idea. Hopefully we’ll see this type of gameplay in future FPS conversions on the iPhone. Here’s a synergistic idea: Combine Ash from the Evil Dead franchise and Duke Nukem for a B-Movie style online co-op game!
I have yet to find any of the accelerometer induced racing games all that compelling. I actually desperately want an option to lock the accelerometer cuz it gets annoying when it can’t make up its mind. Would this accessory help? Looking like it’s got some nice design features it definitely doesn’t seem all that portable. It comes with 4 different adapters for your iProduct and a swiveling suction mount for flat and dust free surfaces. Check out the enthusiastic video. No word yet on price or availability but I’d guess that it will be around $30.
Diogo from Spawn Studios has been kind enough to give us redemption codes for 10 free copies of the iPhone game MagnetRox. That’s a $1.99 value, and to make things super simple I’m posting the codes on a ‘hidden’ page on GadgetReview. Just go here to grab the code and leave a comment on the post when you’ve used it.
For some reason puzzle games have never been able to hold my attention for very long. Maybe they just took a back seat to the more action oriented games I always ended up playing instead. Whatever the case may have been, I recently had the opportunity to try out MagnetRox by Spawn Studios.
The object of the game is to transport an orb from its starting point to its final destination. The hitch is that you can only move the orb in one direction at a time and that you must navigate correctly amongst a variety of obstacles that can change the direction of the orb. The first few levels ramp you up tutorial style to get use to the gameplay and the obstacles. After that the game gets much more difficult with all types of different objects thrown in your way.
MagnetRox is all about planning your moves as there is no undo button. There will be a lot of trial and error and restarted levels to say the least. And in my case, there will also be a lot of frustration. While I did like this game I didn’t last very long. I played through to the 10th level and once I tried it about 20 times without success and then I got bored.
The graphics are simple but effective and the design is very cyber-industrial. Loading was fast and it was really easy to restart a level. That’s huge given the fact that the majority of my time playing was spent failing. Even though I find my mind to be a bit “peabrain” for puzzle games I do recommend MagnetRox. While it would be better at $0.99, it’s a quick and easy game that you can play on the go that takes virtually no time to learn. Check out the trailer below.
After that cool video surfaced showing the Japanese version of Resident Evil 4, the American version is now available for $8 dollars in the App Store. Not many reviews in the App Store as of now, but so far people are saying that the control scheme is better than Degeneration but the game really only lasts around 3-4 hours. The color palette looks a bit muted to me but I’m sure the game is a blast given the franchise and the portability factor. I think I would need some more replay value though before I dropped $8 dollars.
Finally! This is what I’ve been waiting for, now bring on King’s Quest and Police Quest! There has been so much Monkey Island hype these days and rightfully so. One of the original and best graphic adventures is now available portable style on the iPhone and iPod Touch for $7.99. That’s a whole two dollars cheaper than the Xbox Live version. The reviews, while mostly glowing state that the game is awesome but that the controls suck. Instead of touching where you want to you have to drag the cursor and the action on it is very slow. Let’s hope LucasArts gets a patch up soon to help the game flow better. LeChuck yah heard!
Back in the day this game was all the rage. The sequel was pretty darn good too. There was even a third. Not quite sure if it is worth $5 at this stage in the game but Sega has just announced that it will be bringing Streets of Rage to the iPhone and iPod touch. Will the controls translate? I would think so given the minimalistic scope, but will there be co-op? This is a great start to what I hope will be tons of older games like this. I’d buy Bad Dudes for dollar! Also let’s see some graphic adventure titles from back in the day like Police Quest and King’s Quest!
