Aside from a few broken windows and faces, the Wiimote destroys batteries, battery juice that is. Looks like they got smart, though, and have packed with Sanyo to integrate their ‘no one knows about’ Enloop battery technology. The battery pack fits on current Wiimotes and charges via the Wiimote stand.
For those note familiar with Enloop batteries: They’re like NiCd or NiMh rechargeables only they last longer, don’t have the same memory issues, and work right out of the box. I think they charge faster than standard rechargeables as well.
Available here for $74, but not officially in the US
Logitech, long time maker of keyboards and mice for computers, is set to launch the Nintendo Wii keyboard. Looking slim and trim, this wireless typepad is a full QWERTY and will boast Wii specific keys such as zoom, forward/back, quit, and more. The receiver dongle fits snuggly into the keyboard for easy transportation.
So after months of rumors Microsoft has come clean. The Xbox 360 WILL stream Netflix’s 10,000+ movies and TV shows. Praise the lord! I almost bought a Netflix Player, although based on my experience so far (I have a review unit) the Netflix Player is a pretty great device - it has no fan noise like the Xbox 360. The Netflix service will be free to all Gold Member Xbox live customers. Streaming content will be allowed to be shared with friends (aka streaming party), but you will have to have a Netflix subscription of $8.99 or higher. The picture quality will be standard definition.
The Netflix on Xbox 360 service is expected to launch Fall 2008.
I say concedes, because when it comes to bowling, tennis - heck any game - you could just move the Wii-mote or Nunchuk a half inch and get the same accuracy - and reaction - as flinging it 3 feet. From the looks of it, they’ve added in an accelerometer. Put that in combination with the motion sensor you’ve stuck on top of your TV and it’ll reflect your action in what Nintendo calls a ‘true 1:1 response’.
Let’s just hope the games of the future take advantage of this.
Apparently the ST-2 Shooting Simulator is so accurate that even the Russian and Slovakian national clay shooting teams use it for practice. Co-developed by the British Association of Shooting (is that like the NRA) the ST-2 provides user feedback on every shoot. Bring your own gun - that is if you can find one to use - and hook it up for that true practice experience.
No word on price or availability and it’s designed for shotgun and rifle practice.
It’s no surprise that Lucas licenses the Star Wars brand to, well, pretty much anything cool. Now your kids, or all you ‘growned up folks’, can enjoy your Nintendo DS with your very own Star Wars Lightsaber Stylus. And the fun don’t stop there. Embedded in the stylus is an LED to illuminate the ever so small piece of nostalgia.
The Novint Controller is a 3D gamepad with tactile response for video gaming. Currently it’s built for the PC, but maybe well see Xbox or PS3 support in the future. Nonetheless, Valve PC announced a new agreement with Novint Falcon to support the following games with the pictured FPS handgun add on: Half-Life 2 and its two following episodes, Team Fortress 2, Portal and Counter-Strike: Source and Left 4 Dead.
The Novint Falcon controller is available here for $159
