When old meets new we smile with joy. Say hello to the Quattrogiga leather journal from Pinetti. It’s your garden variety leather journal, but instead of utilizing your standard strap and hook system to keep the pages sealed from prying eyes, they’ve replaced it with a rubber strap that has a built-in 4GB flash drive. The pages of the journal are completely refillable which adds to it’s overall versatility and assuming you’re willing to throw down $85 for one, you’ll never be too far from your pictures, homework or files when you’re jotting down the day’s events.

Finally, a marriage of two of the biggest industries out there, the tech industry and the adult one, has arrived with the FleshDrive. The FleshDrive is a USB drive preloaded with 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB of adult entertainment videos, starting at just $39.95. Their website, which I won’t be linking to, promises a variety of videos of both the straight and gay variety. A word of caution, Apple users — they’re formatted as .WMV (it’s as if Steve Jobs designed it himself, what with his porn-hating ways). What I find most hilarious is that the company says the audience is both those wishing to avoid viruses, and “business travelers” — please keep it to the Holiday Inn hotel room and not the airplane, guys.

Perhaps you’ve got a covert op to run and the last thing you want to happen is for those spy docs to get lost in a tumble down a flight of stairs, a dip in the arctic ocean or a drop from a 3 story building. Fear not for the Lacie XtremKey is hear to save the day.

The drive comes in variety of capacities ranging from 8GB to 64GB. It can survive almost any environment (+200°C / -50°) thanks to the highly resistant 2mm metal pipe casing, which is crafted of zamac, a metal alloy composed of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copperwear. The case itself features resistant screw threads and a rubber O-ring, making it watertight up to 100 meters. Add to that it can survive drops up to 5 meters and this thing can survive just about anything you throw at it, including a 10-ton truck. Don’t be fooled by it’s big stats, the XtremKey is just 3-inches tall and can achieve write speeds up to 30 Mb/s.

So when is it available? Sometime in August starting at $50.

While USB 3.0 still remains mostly on paper – there are a few odd products on the market – Corsairs has been diligently tinkering on the tried and true USB 2.o format. Using something called quad-channel architecture, they’ve enabled read speeds up to 34MB/s and write speeds up to 28MB/s on their latest USB flash drives, the Flash Voyager GTR.

According to their real world labs tests using a Windows 7 PC “the Flash Voyager GTR 128GB was tested head-to-head against a 128GB USB drive from one of the world’s largest suppliers of UFDs. For the first test, a folder containing 8,125 MP3 files was copied to the Flash Voyager GTR in only 39 minutes, while the competitor took over 66 minutes to complete the same task. The second test copied a documents folder containing 37,000 small DOC files, which took just 6 minutes on the Flash Voyager GTR versus more than 37 minutes on the competitor’s USB flash drive.”

I know, most of you are probably wondering who really cares. But if’ you’ve ever tried to copy an entire flash drive’s contents – mostly music for me – then you know how painful of an experience it can be.

The family of Corsair Flash Voyager GTR flash drives are due any day now, although price has yet to be disclosed. They’ll be available in 3 capacities, each with a water resistant housing: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Corsair® Launches New Ultra-High Speed, High Capacity USB Flash Drives

- Innovative quad-channel architecture enables speeds of up to 34 MB/s on USB2 -

Hannover, Germany. March 2, 2010 — Corsair, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer memory, power supplies and flash memory products, including solid-state drives, today announced the Flash Voyager® GTR family of USB flash drives. These USB flash drives feature outstanding speed in a variety of densities.

The quad-channel architecture employed by the Flash Voyager GTR series delivers read speeds up to 34MB/s and write speeds up to 28MB/s, approaching the maximum transfer rates supported by the USB 2.0 interface. The outstanding performance numbers translate into genuine, real-world results. In the Corsair Labs, using a typical Windows 7-based PC, the Flash Voyager GTR 128GB was tested head-to-head against a 128GB USB drive from one of the world’s largest suppliers of UFDs. For the first test, a folder containing 8,125 MP3 files was copied to the Flash Voyager GTR in only 39 minutes, while the competitor took over 66 minutes to complete the same task. The second test copied a documents folder containing 37,000 small DOC files, which took just 6 minutes on the Flash Voyager GTR versus more than 37 minutes on the competitor’s USB flash drive. Details of this testing can be found here.

“As we continue to digitize the sights, sounds, movies, and business of our everyday lives, we need better and better ability to transport our data and access it quickly,” stated John Beekley, VP of Technical Marketing at Corsair. “The Flash Voyager GTR combines the best features of a USB flash drive and the performance of an external hard drive to provide the ultimate data portability tool.”

The Flash Voyager GTR drives will be available in densities of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. They feature a durable and water-resistant rubber housing to protect the drive against accidental damage.

The Flash Voyager GTR series is available immediately from Corsair’s authorized distributors and resellers worldwide, and is backed by a 10-Year Limited Warranty. Complete customer support via telephone, email, forum and Tech Support Express is also available.

A corrupt and crashed hard drive might be more depressing than breaking up with a rich, well spoken super model. All those important pics and video files (wink), oh and text files will be lost. And God knows backing up with Time Machine on the mac or any computer is an arduous task.

Enter the Lexar Echo ZE, a tiny and discreet USB flash drive for those with the on the go lifestyle. It measures a diminutive 20.1 by 15.1 millimeters in size, is compatible with any OS on the market today and is available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities. Sure, that won’t back up your entire hard drive’s contents, but all the pertinent files will be saved, and it’s small enough that you can always leave it plugged in. I just wished they had designed it with a daisy chain like input, so you didn’t have to have one of your few (probably 2 or 3) USB drives always occupied.

You can currently pre-order the Lexar Echo ZE at Amazon, which range from $50 to $140.

Embracing a Halo type of design aesthetic, this USB drive concept looks quite snazzy. With its polished silver finish, the main draw here is the bright red display that denotes how much memory is available. So far this design is just a concept, but I’m sure something like this will hit the marketplace soon enough.

What do you think? Is this something that would really be that helpful or would it just look cool to your friends?

I like buying my combs at the dollar store. Then I have them scattered about my place, car, and bike bag. I have a tornado of a weave that needs constant attention and combing. Why duct tape one of the many USB drives I got from CES to one of my many combs when I can buy a (comb)ination of the two?

For $35, you can buy this 2GB comb/USB drive to effectively render you a person of value and desire. The social implications would be stammering for all I can tell, and I would never tell anyone I actually bought this. How long till’ this thing breaks on you?

We all know firsthand the pain of a lost gadget.

That frantic searching, that desperate retracing of the steps, that final sinking horror to realize that, despite all your efforts, you’re going to have to shell out two hundred bucks for a new iPod and your old one worked just fine if you could just FIND IT!

But now, thanks to the crew out at Ardi Technology, that pain may not hit near so often thanks to their Ardi Mini Tracker 505 and 506.

The Mini Trackers show on a display, with a simple LED arrow, what direction you need to go in to find your lost gadget of choice within a range of one hundred meters. You just attach the “slave unit” to your choice of gadget, and, when it comes up missing, use the “master unit” to detect the errant gadget.

As awesome as this sounds, Ardi Technlogy is still trying to find a reseller for these devices in the United States, so you can’t get your hands on one of these yet. The read link below includes a really clever slide show / video of how the Mini Tracker works, and now, I really want one.

It’s really, REALLY, hard to find a camera any more without an LCD display, so I was definitely shocked to find the OneShot camera, a camera so tiny that it’s about the same size, length and width, as your thumb.

There is no LCD display here. No slots for flash memory, either. But it apparently somehow manages to not only come with face detection, but also never need batteries. This camera actually recharges like some of those flashlights you see–all you have to do is shake it.

The OneShot seems to not only run on a dynamo but also offers no expansions in memory. This may be one of the weirdest cameras I’ve ever SEEN.

Grenades by their very nature tend to pose a threat, but anything shaped like a grenade, but isn’t actually a grenade is an immediate draw to us none military folks. What might be the perfect complement to the <a href="http://www.gadgetreview.com/2009/02/grenade-alarm-clock-is-a-great-gift-for-veterans.html"title="Grenade Alarm clock" >Grenade Alarm Clock, the Hand Grenade USB Flash Drive is available in 4 different colors (White, Black, Orange and Blue) and can store up to 4GB of data. You can grab one for just $20. It’s just too bad pulling the pin and flipping the handle doesn’t erase the drive’s contents.

Any sort of nefarious content should be under lock and key, or at the very least combination. The Personal Pocket Safe USB Drive protects all your data by simply requiring its user to punch in a PIN on the built-in keyboard before read or write access is allowed. For added security the drive will erase itself if someone forces entry and after 3 incorrect PIN attempts it locks up. There’s no word on capacity, which leads me to believe their trying to sell it to OEMs, but you can grab a bunch of them (or one) for about $100.

It was just a matter of time for the the plug in Air Freshener to make the leap from wall socket to USB flash drive. The AromaUSB comes in three scents (Calming, Clarity and Energizing) and includes absolutely no memory whatsoever. They’re completely customizable with your own logo and colors, which leads me to believe they’re more gimmick than practical.
