You can season this one with a grain of salt, because there’s no official word from Belkin. Pictured here is yet another game pad for the iPhone or iPod Touch, much like the iControlpad. Or is it? The Belkin Joy Pad might in fact be a stand alone device, but then how do you port your games over?
Long story short, I’m assuming it’s a hardware add-on due to the DRM complications, but we won’t really know until Belkin fesses.
Now you truly can get your ‘game on’ on the iPhone with the iControlpad. The device slips over the iPhone and allows for true arcade interaction. Neat, but what Apps or Games will work with it?
Disclaimer: This only is designed for Apps, not good old regular web browsing. Essentially, it’s an open source project that allows any iPhone App developer to add ‘copy and paste’ functionality to their App. According to GeekBrief, they’ve worked it such that the functionality, or add on, doesn’t violate any of Apple’s App T&Cs. Hit the video to see it in action.
As you’ve probably heard by now, many folks are complaining about the iPhone 3G’s lack of 3Geeness. One iPhone customer is so pissed that she’s filed a suit against Apple for misrepresenting the phone’s abilities. Her name: Jessica Alena Smith. She’s hoping the suit will get approved for class action status.
I tip my hat to Jessica, but I can’t help but wonder if she’s a lawyer trying to make a quick buck off Apple? Sure the reception might suck, but she really hasn’t given Apple a fair chance to quell the problem.
I am gonna keep this post short and to the point. Hit up iSmashphone for all the steps. With the Simply Media app you can access your iTunes library, and 10 friends’ library, from anywhere your iPhone has a 3G or WiFi connection. Just download the app (here) to your iPhone and to your computer (here) and your essentially ready to go. Course, to access your friend’s library they’ll also need to install the software and let you suck some bandwith.
Hurry, cause the iPhone app is only free for the first 100,000
According to Swedish weekly mag, the Ny Teknik, the newest iPhones, which sport 3G chips might have a flaw. Apparently, some handsets sensitivity to 3rd generation network signals are way below 3G standards. Ultimately, this means crappy 3G connectivity (aka dropped calls and poor reception). Forum users have claimed to do side-by-side testing with other 3G handsets and found the iPhone to be on the weak side. Course, this verdict might be more looking at the ‘bars’ displayed on the iPhone screen, which isn’t necessarily an accurate representation of signal strength, and more a subjective one.
It was only a matter of time that Best Buy would concede and began selling the World’s most popular cell phone (most popular in the last few months is what I’m going with here). They’ll start selling the 3G iPhone 9/7/08, just in time for the holidays - lucky them.
How well they’ll handle the activation is a whole other story. God knows they have a hard enough time directing me to the CD aisle. I’m kidding, I don’t buy CDs or shop at Best Buy, but you catch my drift.
Does this mean we’ll see other retailer selling the iPhone? Time can only tell, but Best Buy should serve as an interesting test.
iCall might just be the real thing when it comes to making and receiving calls over WiFi via the iPhone. They guys at iCall say they’ve got a working prototype, but due to Apple’s developer app NDA they can’t give it to anyone. Additionally, they claim that you can transfer an active cell phone call to VoIP without any interruptions in conversation.
Hit the the ‘leap’ to watch their hokey little video they made detailing the process. Unfortunately, it doesn’t bring any additional credence to the product, but it does put it in an easily digestible manner for those not familiar with the idea.
Personally, I love the idea, but I gotta wonder what happens when Skype releases their iPhone App? I should mention that iCall offers an App for Windows users that lets you call anyone for free. Sure does make my $3 a month Skype habit look expensive.
Since I’m on the subject of the iPhone Apps, here’s a hilarious video mocking the new stoner movie Pineapple Express. Take a look, but I’ll give you a hint: It involves the iPhone and an app specifically designed for the weed smoker in all of you. Ya, that’s right, I don’t smoke.
