As previously reported, and at the time rumored, the Apple Macbook event is now officially set for October 14th. My hands are shaking! Why? Because this Gen1 Macbook ain’t cutting it anymore. Course I could toss in some more RAM, but then I wouldn’t have a good reason to grab a new Macbook.

October 9th, 2008 1:46 PM | by Christen da CostaNews At A Glance: Netflix To Launch Mac Compatble Streaming Service
October 2nd, 2008 7:21 PM | by Christen da Costa
The Scoop: Netflix’s streaming service isn’t compatible with Macs due to the DRM. Later this year, they’ve definitively said they plan to roll out a compatible codec so us Apple freaks can gain access to Netflix’s 12,000+ movies and tv shows from our ‘puters.
Quote: “And, for all of you Mac users (of which I am one) we’ve been busy working getting a solution that will allow you to watch instantly on your Mac. So hang in there - we’ll have something for you by the end of the year.”
New Macbook Model Placeholders Leaked…Maybe
September 24th, 2008 4:23 PM | by Christen da CostaAccording to AppleInsider, FutureShop’s (BestBuy’s Canada brand) inventory system has 6 new placeholders that imply that the new Macs are just around the corner as previously rumored.
Unfortunately, they’re just placeholders, but Best Buy has been known to slip Apple info in the past.
EFi-X Dongle Hacks Your PC To Run Mac OS X With No Fuss Or Mess
September 17th, 2008 6:25 PM | by Christen da CostaI’ve been a lifetime Apple user, so I totally sympathize with those envious PC users longing for some Mac OS X love. Until recently, any noncovert had to depend on their hacking skills to get the slick OS installed. Not any more, thanks to the EFi-X dongle. It simply plugs into your PC’s motherboard and applies a Mac firmware allowing a complete install of Mac OS X plus updates.
The EFi-X dongle us currently available here (out of stock) in two versions for $155

New Macbooks Already Shipping
September 15th, 2008 7:26 PM | by Christen da Costa
According to Citi Group analyst Rich Gardner, and by way of Apple Insider, Apple has already begun shipping new Macbooks from China to US shores. I have no clue how he confirmed this, but in a ‘company flash’ bulletin he wrote:
“Field checks confirm that shipments of new MacBooks have begun, with a sharp production ramp planned for September and an introduction planned for early October,” he wrote. “The most distinctive features of the new MacBook appear to be a very thin aluminum casing, an LED-backlit display and an aggressive entry-level price point.”
The new Macbooks will purportedly have a very thin aluminum case, an LED backlit display (yay battery) and an aggressive entry-level price point. As rumored a few days ago, Apple will unveil the new lappies on October 14th.
iPhone 2.1 Firmware Update Fixes Many Problems
September 15th, 2008 1:36 PM | by Albert S.By: Albert S
Apple’s iPhone 2.1 firmware update is definitely a keeper according to numerous user reports and website reviews. Fixes include better reception, reduced dropped calls, longer battery life, reduced crashing and hanging, faster application installation, improved email reliability, and more.
Looks like the iPhone is finally out of “beta”, eh? IMHO, if you have the patience, it’s usually smart to wait a while before buying anything. That way, the early adopters aka beta testers aka suc…err techno hip have a chance to sort out the bugs.
New Apple Patent Emerges For Nike+ With GPS and More
September 11th, 2008 6:55 PM | by Christen da CostaBy: Christen da Costa
A new patent filing from Apple indicates their willingness to make a much greater investment in Nike+ and its capabilities. So what’s the next gen Nike+ capable of? Just about everything workout related. To start, the device will keep track of your shoes and other garments wear and tare, providing feed back to the user such that they can replace it before injury occurs. It will also be capable of monitoring your where abouts via GPS and compare your physiological aptitude against a database of other runners in your age, height and weight range. Additionally, the next gen Nike+ would be able to provide points of interest based on historical GPS data and perhaps even, one day, advertise to the user based on recorded database information.
Scary and cool all at the same time. As depicted in many futuristic apocalyptic films, the advancement of technology, and more importantly data tracking, might be human kind’s greatest downfall. Is Apple the next Terminator or am I just crazy!? I’m stickin’ with crazy for now.
Apple Laptop Refresh Possibly This October
September 10th, 2008 3:28 PM | by Christen da CostaLive and die by the way of Apple, at least that’s what you’d think those Macheads preach (I won’t deny it, I’m sort of one). No doubt droves of Apple addicts were left with that empty not so fresh feeling yesterday. Why? Because, they wanted the much needed Apple laptop refresh to be announced during the ‘Let’s Rock Event‘. Did you not catch the name’s implicit, boardering on explicit meaning? To cure those Apple blues, Macrumors via DaringFireball, says that those ‘familiar with Apple’s hardware plans’ have claimed an Apple hardware announcement on October 14, 2008, which should equate to new or updated laptops.
Just no more white laptops. I can’t get the stain out. Giggity!

Apple Takes Back NBC
September 9th, 2008 6:22 PM | by Christen da CostaWith 65 million users how could NBC resist. That’s right, NBC shows are once again available on iTunes. After pulling out of the World’s most popular music store almost a year ago, NBC has signed a new deal with Apple to distribute its shows. To bolster engagement, NBC will be offering one free standard definition download of some of its top shows for the next 2 weeks. I can only imagine the shit eating grin Jobs had on his face when they came crawling back.
If you recall, NBC partnered with Fox to produce the free streaming site ‘Hulu’. Hulu offers standard definition and 480p quality video from many popular TV shows and movies, and based on my experience works almost flawlessly. Hulu rocks, but it ain’t iPod friendly.
