While product testers were quite happy with its high 165Hz refresh rate and equally impressive gaming performance, they also lauded it for its low input lag and impressive brightness levels. However, its low contrast ratio of 1011:1 and its bad black uniformity were disappointing. They also didn’t like its limited connectivity options.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Pixio P7 Prime is an entry-level monitor that was launched in early 2022. It’s a far cry from what some of the best computer monitors offer, and even though it is not a top-tier gaming monitor, it comes equipped with a decent 144Hz refresh rate that delivers a tear-free gaming experience and a low input lag of 3.7ms for instant gaming responsiveness. The display also has a fantastic 10.3ms response time, which keeps motion blur at bay during fast action scenes. Its reflection handling is better than the Acer Nitro VG271UP, making it suitable for use in a brightly lit environment. It also has a very wide SDR color gamut as evidenced by its 99.5% coverage of the SDR color space. With a peak HDR brightness level of 384 nits, the P7 Prime is a better pick than the MSI Optix MAG273R, which has a lower peak brightness setting of 345 nits.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Pixio P7 Prime delighted testers with its gaming performance. Experts from Tom’s Hardware were pleased with its 165 Hz refresh rate since, during their tests, they did not come across any form of screen tearing. After their experiments, reviewers from Rtings were also satisfied with the monitor’s wide viewing angles courtesy of its IPS panel type, and its high text clarity. They credited this to its pixel density of 109 PPI, which is higher than that of the Samsung C27RG5 at 82 PPIand since its 1440p screen resolution is higher than the 1080p offered by the MSI Optix G273, its text clarity is also impressive.

However, critics still felt that its 1011:1 contrast ratio was not the best for dark room viewing, and this was also exacerbated by its poor black uniformity. Also disappointing was its single HDMI and USB port.
