Most of the OEMs have already released their flagship devices for the year. At GadgetReview, we’ve already compared flagship devices, including the OnePlus One, HTC One M8, Galaxy S5 and more. Not to long ago, LG unveiled their latest flagship device, the LG G3, which goes on sale in various regions this month. Before you make your final decision, you should know there are other flagship devices in the market as well, and to make your decision a little easier, we’ve compared three excellent flagship devices: Samsung Galaxy S5, OnePlus One and LG G3. Take a look.
Display and Design
This is the area where LG G3 knocks out every other competitor. It rocks a 5.5-inch display sporting a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 and OnePlus One both feature a 5-inch and 5.5-inch display respectively — both features a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
As far as the design is concerned, Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a similar plastic exterior as its predecessor, but with a little different look. On the other hand, both LG G3 and OnePlus One both come with a plastic exterior. Although LG G3 features a plastic back panel, it comes with a metallic finish on the back, while the OnePlus One looks more like a Nexus 5. It comes with black and white color options, while LG G3 comes in an array of colors including Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet, Burgundy Red. As for the Samsung Galaxy S5, it comes in four colors: Charcoal Black, Copper Gold, Electric Blue and Shimmery White.
LG G3 measures 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm. As for OnePlus One, it measures 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm and is a little bigger than the remaining two.
Samsung Galaxy S5 also comes with IP67 certification, making it dust and water-resistant up to some extent. The feature is not present in LG G3 or OnePlus One, and could be the one to attract some customers. In addition, it also features a fingerprint scanner under the home button, a feature which is not present in the other two devices.
Performance and Storage
All three handsets offers solid performance. All the three handsets comes with a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset, but the one on the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a clocked at 2.5GHz, while the other two are at 2.3GHz. Samsung Galaxy S5 and OnePlus One comes with 2GB of RAM, but LG G3 has two variants: one of them comes with 2GB of RAM, while the second one features 3GB of RAM.
As far as the storage is concerned, LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with 16/32GB of storage, while the OnePlus One offers 16 and 64GB of storage on board. The 32GB version of the LG G3 has more RAM to offer. Both the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy S5 also offer microSD card support of up to 128GB, so this may be one area where OnePlus One lacks behind the two devices.
As far as the casual users are concerned, all three devices offer amazing performance, and it’s could be a little hard to take out a winner in them, but LG G3 may offer a better experience due to more RAM, and a simplistic Android interface.
LG G3 comes with a 13MP camera on board with optical image stabilization plus and a laser auto focus which give users the ability to capture sharper images. The camera feature 1/3” sensor size, simultaneous video and image recording, geo-tagging, face detection and HDR. One the other hand, OnePlus One also features a 13MP camera but it may not produce a result as good as the LG G3. Both devices can capture 4K video shooting capabilities.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S5, it comes with a 16MP camera with ISOCELL technology on board. The device features a 1/2.6” sensor size and a 1.12 µm pixel size, with 4K video recording capabilities.
Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system with a TouchWiz UI on board. Samsung has made some improvements to the OS, but it still comes with a lot of bloatware, effecting the performance of the handset. As for the LG G3, it also features Android 4.4.2 KitKat with LG’s own UI, which has been improved immensely, and looks much cleaner compared to its previous iteration. Last but not the least, OnePlus One comes with Cyanogenmod mode 11S, based on the KitKat OS.
This is one of the most important things I look for in a handset, and I’m most of you do too. Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 2,800 mAh battery with an Ultra battery saving mode for extended battery. On the other hand, LG G3 and OnePlus One comes with 3,000 mAh and 3,100 mAh battery on board. All devices can provide a decent battery timing, but it also depends on how much usage you have during the day. LG G3 is yet to hit global markets, so we’re not very sure about how well the battery is on the device since it has a monstrous QHD display to take care of as well, but based on the early reviews from reputed publications, the device can provide a decent battery time.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is available on all major US carriers, as well as other global markets as well with a price tag of around $650 for the unlocked model. As for the LG G3, it’s not yet available from carriers in the US, but most of them are expected to stock the devices by the end of this month. As for OnePlus One, the process of getting a device is a little different as you have to get an invite to purchase the handset. This may be a hassle, but you can check out third-party retailers and check if they have the handset in stock.
There you go, all the three devices comes with top-of-the-line specifications on board, and almost a similar price tag. OnePlus One is not widely available in the market, which may be one of its drawbacks, but Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3 are available in major global markets.
