It’s E3 time again folks. The show is just now whirring up with the traditional press conferences from the major publishing houses and hardware manufacturers like Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony. Those are typically filled with announcement that won’t see completed fruition for several months to years. For instance, Ubisoft’s The Division was first seen at last year’s E3. It looked and still appears to be one the hottest games on the horizon. Open world Tom Clancy stuff set in the wake of a globally crippling pandemic with plenty of high tech gadgets to play with. Yes please. Sadly this one has been pushed to 2015. But this year’s E3 brings new gameplay reveals from some the best and brightest of last year’s E3 and plenty newness. Here are 11 brand new Must-see gameplay videos of E3 2014, starting with…
Mirror’s Edge 2
EA DICE returns to the franchise that started the current and repeated use of Parkour movement syles in video games. Not much is shown but the promise of ME2 is very real.
The game is set in a turbulent war-torn Tom Clancy mythos. The setting is NY, after a Black Friday event has turned the world into part Abrams-esque Revolution (TV) and part Bohemia Interactive DayZ. It looks like we have PVE and PVP meshed together in a world gone completely to shit. We also have what looks like drop-in/drop-out co-operative play. Moreover, the game is running on Ubisoft’s new Snodrop game engine. Look that one up. The released video on the engine tech are impressive.
Let me tell you… From what I’ve seen, this new game dubbed, Destiny looks like something altogether different. It also looks no less epic in scale and depth of story than the Halo universe before it. There are tons of aliens creatures, cool weapons, and special abilities. With my feeble eye, I spy some hot new vehicles such as hover bikes and a number of different fighter style jets.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt
Witchers are mutants, altered and enhanced by arcane potions to propel their strength, speed and senses to superhuman levels so they may hunt and track the most vile monsters and creatures in the realm. They wield two blade, one made of steel used against humans and another blade. The second is made of silver is used primarily in dispatching monsters. The Witcher 3 will be the first set in an open and persistent world where choices are many but all have lasting implications.
The Evil Within
The Evil Within is the next game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, and his new studio, Tango Gameworks.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
This is another take on the popular and swiftly growing open world survival horror genre. It’s much like DayZ and Nether in that regard. But H1Z1 is the product of Sony Online Entertainment is made from the expansive Planetside 2 game engine. It looks a bit rough around the edges now. But the elements of isolation, the threat of dwindling rations and perpetual question of “Who should you trust” are all there. Keep an eye on this one.
In Evolve, one player assumes the role of a hunted and feared behemoth of a monster-thingy, the other players work cooperatively in different classes to take the creature down. It’s scheduled to launch this October and the trailer above reveals new Hunters, a new hazardous map and gameplay mechanics.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity
Now we get to traverse an open world Assassin’s Creed game with co-op gameplay functionality. Take down high value targets effectively by working closely with other parkour skilled assassins during France’s turbulent era, the eve before the French Revolution.
Warframe – On Xbox One
One the most high intensity Free-2-Play games on PC… The most downloaded game on PS4… This Pre-E3 reveal shows the parkour-filled space ninja sword fighting-fest is coming to the box that Bill built. Xbox One Warframe is a real thing. Plus the current community has been rallying hard for cross-platform play. Could that extend between PS4, PC and Xbone? But I digress… Warframe is four-player cooperatively-play 3rd-person action adventure game. It features gunplay, swordplay, parkour and one of the most intricate weapon and character customization mechanics of any game. Oh and did I say it’s free-2-play?
