USB is the charging technology of choice. Even Apple, the only mobile company still clinging to proprietary connectors, still begrudgingly has a USB connector at the end of those millions of charging cords. There are dozens of devices that need charging, and apparently somebody decided we needed to have them all going at once.
What’s The Standard For “Overkill?”
Hence, this white and blue plastic tower, with a staggering 40 USB ports. To be fair, you can only have all 40 going at once if you’re plugging in a phone or something similar; this can only charge 16 iPads at once.
But make no mistake, this isn’t some joke. It’s designed to be a massive USB power strip. You plug it into a wall and then you, your family, anybody who comes over and their friends, will never lack for a place to jack into a power source ever again. And it’s even got some power features beyond just “lots of ports.”
First of all, it’s got what you’d expect from a power strip. There’s surge protection so none of your devices get fried. It’s even got individual on/off switches for each “level” of the tower, meaning you can turn off some of the truly ridiculous 33.6 amps this thing draws when you’re not using it. Oh, and it’s also built to be fire retardant.
Power Where You Need It
It’s true that you’re unlikely to need this in your home, except as a demonstration of just how many USB ports you can fill with your gadgets. Indeed, this is more likely to become a feature of waiting rooms and other public spaces, especially as we put more and more power demand on our gadgets. And if nothing else, it’s at least more useful than trying to find an outlet to jack your charger into.
