Ever since a cat decided to sit on one as it went about its business, humanity has fallen in love with robotic vacuum cleaners. They are, however, somewhat limited in that they’re designed to clean floors and that’s pretty much it. So Ecovacs has decided to combine the two, so you can clean while you clean.

The Future Of Dirt Removal

The first part of the device is pretty straightforward: It’s a robot vacuum cleaner. The D77 is designed to clean floors, be they covered in marble, carpet, woods, or what have you. Basically as long as the shag is less than 2cm, it can clean it up. Another nice touch is that when it returns to its docking station, it also empties out its dust chamber. And its low profile means that it can get under pretty much any furniture.

Canned Dust

Also attached to this particular vacuum’s dock, and in fact where it dumps all that dust, is a canister vac with a shoulder strap. If you want to vacuum something off the walls, like a cobweb, or clean a surface, you just pop the vacuum off, start sucking things up, and put it back on the dock to recharge. Yeah, it’s not an industrial black hole, but remember, you’ve already got a robot cleaning your floors.

If there’s one truism when it comes to housecleaning, it’s that vacuuming the floors is better left to an adorable little robot that can deal with the problem for you. But Ecovacs’ design is smart not least because it still gives homeowners a vacuum they need for surfaces and the like, and it makes life much easier for everyone. So, really, if you’re sick of cleaning the floors or just like robots, this will be a good way to make sure the surfaces are clean.
