If you’ve ever tried to pick out colors for your walls, then you know that it’s sometimes a pain in the ass to do. With so many color options out there, it’s hard to find the right color you want. And if you’re married or share an apartment with a female friend, then you’ve probably looked at more than 20 color swatches as they went back and forth between beige and ecru (which both look practically identical). The app TapPainter now makes choosing colors a whole lot easier. Instead of having to go to Home Depot or Lowes for paper color swatches, the app brings that to you via your smartphone or tablet.
The app lets you play with color using their color wheel, any color fan desk available or enter the color code from a paint swatch you like. Then all you have to do is apply it to any given wall you want to apply it by snapping a picture of that particular wall. It’s designed to automatically find the wall for you and avoid painting over objects on or near the wall. Their custom algorithms are designed to find the ‘reference’, or original color, within the selected region to get the color change right, even in very dark rooms, which is the only app to do this right now. You can also compare recolored images with a simple left/right flick or see them all at once through the recent images screen to help you make the best color decision. The app can be downloaded in the App Store now for $4.99.
