Photographers know all too well the pain of losing their lens caps. That’s why lens caps, the world over, are secured to lenses with a handy little nylon thread. But that can be an annoying solution, and the Hack x Tack promises to never lose your lens cap… ever.

Magnets! They Work!

The system is simplicity itself, really. The first part is a magnet you glue to the front of the lens cap. The second is a magnet you clip to yourself, your gear bag, or anything else that can be clipped. Then, just pair the magnets, they cling to each other thanks to the physical laws that guide our universe, and you no longer need to look for a lens cap that fell down behind a couch or got stolen by monkeys.

There’s even a little groove to settle it in, but the magnets are strong enough that flipping the cap at your lapel will do the job.

Fashionable Magnetism

Another nice touch is that the Hack x Tack looks good no matter where you clip it. The clip itself is sheathed in wood and stainless steel, and the tag you stick on your lens caps is all steel itself. Essentially no matter what, you’ll look a lot more slick than you would with other lens cap tracking systems.

A Strong Draw

Probably the best aspect of all this is that you won’t pay a lot to look fashionable while tracking your lens caps. A single clip system just costs you $29, and upgrades to extra clips and bumpers don’t cost much more than that. In other words, it’s exactly what a photographer needs: A cheap, simple, and effective way to track lens caps and keep their stuff put together.

Now, if only we could design something similar for cleaning kits…
