There are many, many, many iPhone cases out there, ranging from ones that make your iPhone a little easier to use photographically to ones that essentially turn your iPhone into a multitool. But on the goofier end of the scale, you’ve got cases like the iPhone Equalizer, which mostly exist to look cool.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term “equalizer”, you know the row of lights that go up and down, depending on the volume of your music. It’s not just a pretty gimmick, it’s an assessment tool used by audio professionals to determine how their audio is coming together and whether or not their sound is experiencing distortion. Each column stands for a different frequency range.
Although on this iPhone case, yes, it’s just a pretty gimmick. Even if it does have a lot of columns.
Sound To Light
It’s fairly simple; hook up the case, which is powered off its own batteries, play some music or any other type of audio, and you’ll see a full equalizer light up your case. There’s even a little speaker shaped like an ’80s boombox that sits at the top of the case so you can better hear what’s being played back. And, yes, testers are included so you don’t have to worry about your batteries being duds.
As for what affect this will have on your iPhone, aside from perhaps teaching you about the frequencies in your music, the site promises that it’s minimal; the case is fairly light, but of course, you’ll need to give up your audio jack in order to make this case work, which may be a dealbreaker for some of us.
However, if you know somebody who loves little iPhone toys and other gadgets, this will be an ideal gift. It’s $50 online.
