Halfbike

What do you get when you combine running and cycling? Not this isn’t a joke, but a new Kickstarter campaign for Halfbike – the “personal vehicle that brings joy back to urban mobility.” Not sure why joy was ever lost, but the contraption is still a pretty cool mobile device to ride around on. Since urban environments are always crowded, the bicycle has been revised in terms of size and functionality and turned into the Halfbike. The light, compact and simple contraption has users standing upright on it with learning your body to turn. Its ride is said to be so smooth that you’ll at times feel as if you’re gliding.

Halfbike

It’s compact enough to take on public transportation with you, yet light enough to carry it up stairs (it weighs 17 lbs) and into small spaces that won’t fit a bike. Whether you’re commuting to work or just want to do some exercise in the park, the Halfbike provides a sort of “bike-jogging” experience. Learning to ride the Halfbike is similar to riding a bike for the first time, finding your balance and feeling the ride until you gradually improve. According to its creators, “just follow your body and the rest will come naturally.” They also suggest learning to ride it in an open space that has smooth pavements.

Halfbike

It’s built using high-quality materials and components and features a minimalistic design. Its lightweight aluminium frame is laser cut and hand welded and the handlebar is hand crafted from impregnated plywood, with the rest of the components selected from various well renowned manufacturers. It has one larger front wheel and two smaller rear ones, sort of looking like a unicycle with training wheels. If your bike isn’t cutting it anymore, try the Halfbike by pledging $899 or more.
