There are plenty of solar gizmos out there, especially on Kickstarter. But Carbon is the most visually arresting of them, for a fairly simple reason; it’s not just a solar cell you can strap to your wrist; it’s also a quite nice analog watch.
Solar Power For Your Phone
Carbon is essentially designed to help you charge your phone when you’re not near an outlet. The “face” of Carbon is a solar panel, which of course generates electricity and is stored in a battery in the watch. When you want charge up your phone, you just plug it into Carbon using the port on the side. Carbon does its job, powers up your phone, and you’ve got three extra hours of talk time sitting on your wrist as needed.
Charge Your Phone And Look Good Doing It
Another nice touch is that Carbon is a fairly classy watch in of itself. The analog nature of the watch means it’s not in the way of the solar cell as it ticks away. And it’s also a bit more attractive than the standard “solar cell in a case” model you can also buy; while that might be useful for outdoor adventurers, the watch face is probably better suited to day-to-day use. And, in a nice touch, Carbon is designed to be compatible with standard watch bands, so if you need something different to match your outfit, you’ve got it.
A Useful Tool On Your Wrist
Another nice touch is that Carbon is useful even if you’re not charging; it comes with a flashlight and emergency light. That said, you will need to keep a few short cords on you to charge up your phone, so that might be annoying. But beyond that, Carbon looks to be a small and well-considered tool to put on your wrist.
