Use The Forcebook
For those unfamiliar, Facebook decided recently to celebrate being around for a decade by offering its users a “Look Back” in the form of a custom video. How effective the tool was is somewhat up for debate; it relies heavily on the idea that you’re posting lots of personal pictures about yourself, instead of the cat photos and memes that most of us actually post. Fortunately, Lord Vader has no such problem, according to Josh Dill.
Look Back In Anger
Needless to say, Darth Vader’s Look Back video is short on adorable pictures and long on violence; it hits all the major high points… well, “high points”, from killing the younglings to freezing Han Solo to blowing Luke’s mind about who his father really is. And if that was a spoiler, man are you ever reading the wrong post.
Anyway, it’s smart not least because Dill cleverly apes the format of the Look Back videos, right down to carefully choosing the image and preserving the cheesier aspects of these videos, like that terrible background music. Although we do wonder where Vader found the time to capture a few of those stills; you’d think he’d be a little busy during Leia’s breakout and not snapping photos of Luke.
Get In Front Of The Empire
Facebook is probably going to be keeping it up with this self-admiration for the whole year, for various reasons, and that means the parodies of that self-marketing will keep coming. We’re looking forward to the next attempt we see from Darth Vader to keep up with the kids these days.
