Update 2/18: Some deals are expired but we’ve added a few more, new laptops from HP with a Core i7 laptop for only $600!

The third Monday of February is fast approaching, and on the weekend prior (and the day of) electronics retailers will commence their traditional 2014 Presidents day sales. For those in the market for a new laptop, it’s the first big sale of the year with the lowest prices on laptops since Black Friday. This year it looks like an unloading of 2013 models, as many are at their lowest prices ever. After analyzing dozens of online electronics retailers, we’ve picked the top five laptop deals for Presidents days.

#1 HP Envy 15 Quad Edition 15.6-inch Laptop for $599 with free shipping (normally $799.99 – use coupon code 50PDS599).

Notable Specs

  • Core i7-4700MQ 4th gen processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 1TB Hard Drive

The most popular and probably best selling laptop from HP – the Envy 15 is a good balance between too big and too small. You can upgrade to a Full HD 1080P display for only$50 – well worth it if you want to see movies at Full HD resolution. For gamers, add on the GT 740M GPU for $85. If you don’t game though and want more speed, we’d suggest the 24GB mSSD cache option for $30. All in all, you can configure as you see fit. Large 8GB of RAM vs most in this price range with only 4 to 6GB is a nice addition.

  • Core i7-4700MQ (4th Gen) processor

If Darth Vader had a laptop, this one would probably be it. It’s an excellent price point for a gaming/media laptop with the latest Core i7 Intel “Haswell” processor and discrete GeForce graphics capable of running modern video games without a hitch. Its “Swappable Ultrabay” is a unique feature allowing you to remove the DVD drive and add either a second graphics card, cooling unit, or hard drive.

Lenovo’s Presidents Day weekend coupon code drops the price to $749. That beats out the previous low of $759 on Black Friday, and is a whopping $400 off the $1,149 list price. If you’re in the market for a sub-$1,000 gaming laptop this is one of the cheapest options out there.
