AcDisplay

ActiveDisplay is one of the most exciting features introduced in the Moto X. What it actually does is that it displays the notifications on the lock screen without you having to turn the display on. You can later view the notifications, head over to the specific app or dismiss it from the Active Display screen. Tapping on the notification will display information about it on the screen while swiping it up will take you to the specific app.

Later, Motorola also released an official app in the Google Play Store for several Motorola devices, including the Droid Mini, Droid Maxx and Droid Ultra, to enjoy the feature. Unfortunately, it wasn’t available for other Android devices until now, thanks to a third-party app that goes by the name of AcDisplay albeit limited functionality.

What is AcDisplay?

AcDisplay is a handy application that brings some of the features of the Active Display to other Android devices. There’s a catch here, for the application to work properly, your device needs to be on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. It doesn’t bring the complete functionality found inside the Moto X, and won’t turn on the screen every time you take your phone out of your pocket.

Once you receive a notification, it will turn the active display on, showing you the notification along with a timer. Once the timer reaches zero, the screen will go off so you have act within the specific time. Swiping up will take you to the application with the notification, while swiping down will unlock the device.

Conclusion

Active Display offers more features than the app, but it should, it’s the official feature of the Moto X, and bringing it to other devices may not be the most easiest thing to do. However, the app does a pretty good job in giving users a feel of how good this feature really is, despite with its limited offering.

If you’re rocking a KitKat-based device, try the application and let us know about your thoughts using the comments below.
