One of the biggest problems for those with issues of limited mobility is the fact that the world, and much of the fun things in life, are designed for people with full mobility. If you need a wheelchair to get around, you may not be able to enjoy the great outdoors. But you can crush it, with the UNiMO wheelchair tank.
Eat It, Wheelchair Ramp
OK, OK, technically it’s not a “wheelchair tank”, as it doesn’t come with a howitzer; you’ll have to provide that artillery on your own. But it is a “continuous tread” wheelchair, so it looks like a tank, and that’s almost as good. But why would you want something like this at your beck and call?
Crush The Great Outdoors
Mostly for reasons of getting around. Anybody who’s had to take a wheelchair onto grass knows that they’re not designed for the outdoors; some models feel like they’re barely designed for perfectly smooth pavement. The continuous tread on the UNiMO allows it to offer a smoother ride while simultaneous being able to roll across bumpier surfaces; the linked tread has more flex than a rubber tire. It can even “climb” small ledges and curbs, giving its user more freedom of movement.
Also, and this is crucially important, the UNiMO “Grace” looks like Captain Pike’s chair from Star Trek. And the Sport looks like a tank. Hey, if you have to use a wheelchair, you should have access to an absolutely bitchin’ wheelchair.
Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’
That said, the ability to own a wheelchair like this won’t come cheap; the UNiMO Sport will run you $10,000 and the more elegant UNiMO Grace will run you a cool $18,000. On the other hand, it’s a tank-treaded wonder; just the ability to ask people making fun of you if they get to drive a tank will be worth the price.
