Every contractor owns a tape measure. Ain’t no question about that. And while it’s probably one of the most tried and tested of tools, it’s can also be the most arduous, especially if you’re on your own and don’t have a partner to hold the other end of the tape.
Enter the Bosch GLM 100 C Professional. Instead of the traditional metal strip that extends from a roll, the GLM 100 uses lasers. Okay, so that’s nothing new. So what is new, you ask? Well, for starters it can transfer recorded measurements to your computer or smartphone using Bluetooth. Moreover, there is an accompanying smartphone app that allows you to annotate images as well as compile measurements into projects so you can determine volume and area. You can even fire the laser using the app, which means you can perch it some where while you hold something else.
Other features include light adjustable display, a built-in pin the extends from the base of the GLM 100 to capture corner measurements (it accounts for this automatically), a rotating display, and a battery that only needs to be recharged after every 25,000 measurements.
At a price of $300 a pop it’s not a drop in the bucket. But for any contractor that money is sure to be recovered in opportunity cost alone, not to mention the ability to capture measurements and notes directly on a smartphone.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
