Is there anything more fun than concept cars? True, except for a lucky, lucky few, we’ll never get to drive any of them. But seeing them in action is so purely entertaining that it’s hard not to be charmed. Especially when they come as odd as Nissan’s new concept, the BladeGlider.

Cruise Control

Despite the name sounding like a terrible Batman villain theme around stabbing and hang-gliding, the BladeGlider is actually an electric vehicle designed to make driving an EV actually seem fun as opposed to dorky. Which is probably impossible, but, hey, good on Nissan for giving it the old college try. Still, this probably isn’t going to win over too many converts, since it’s just so weird.

A… Three-Seater?

Part of that is due to the fact that, well, it’s a concept car, so function follows form, instead of vice versa. As a result, the driver is centrally mounted, while two people can sit in the back. Hey, at least it’s a convertible. In a nice touch, the driver’s seat moves automatically closer to the door so you can get out. That said, its odd “triangular” shape does have a good reason for existing; the majority of the weight is in the back, and the narrower front means there’s less drag on the car, so you can get up to speed faster and without worrying you’re wearing down the batteries.

Just A Concept

Like we said, this little convertible is probably never going to hit the market, although we’re going to see a lot of its technologies sooner rather than later; Nissan is also debuting its first EV racing vehicle soon and the two share somewhat similar DNA. But it’s fun to look at, and who knows? With enough luck, and some spare cash, you too could be driving Nissan’s triangle car.
