Just in time for holiday couch potato all stars, HBO Go is now compatible with Google’s Chromecast. Yes, you read that right. In addition to Netflix, Hulu Plus, and YouTube support, you can now stream HBO Go from any iOS or Android devices to your TV’s Chromecast.
You’ll of course need an HBO subscription with your cable or satellite provider. If not, then you’re kind of screwed. However, and there are of course no guarantees, there is a good chance you’ve got a buddy who is willing to share their HBO login. So far HBO hasn’t cracked down on the sharing of HBO logins, and trust me when I say that it’s rampant.
If you don’t own a Google Chromecast, you can pick one up for as little as $35 on Amazon or direct from Google. Sure, it’s not as robust as an Apple TV, but it’s about a third of the cost and plugs into your TV’s HDMI port – just make sure you’ve got a spare USB port to power it.
If you do own a Chromecast, you’ll likely need to update the iOS or Android app. Once you’ve done so, you should see a little beam symbol, similar to the one you see in YouTube, within the HBO Go app, after you select your video.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
