How often do you think about how your coffee is prepared? Probably not often. But, as the twenty-first century advances and we become more and more obsessed with black, drippy liquids, people are starting to be more concerned about their coffee, or at least fussy about every step of preparing it. Hence, the new machine from Bonaverde Coffee Changers, which allows you to control your coffee from bean selection, to grinding, to roasting.
A Starbucks In A Machine
It’s fairly straightforward. Opening the top of the oddly church-like device, you put beans in the top, and select to what degree you want them roasted. The machine takes over, roasting the bean, and then they’re ground and blasted with water to create your very own cup of wakeup-juice. But why, precisely, would anyone do this?
Coffee Nerds Unite!
Because they are a huge nerd. No, seriously, never get between a nerd and their coffee, prepared to their exact specifications. Beyond that, though, the idea is to give the coffee farmer a bit more power. As it stands, they sell their beans to the roasters, and the roasters are the ones who dictate prices; as you might have guessed from the “fair trade” signs you see around, roasters aren’t shy about driving down the market. So the more of these that are out there, and the more green coffee beans can be sold directly, the more power coffee farmers will have over their own finances.
Inside the Machine
But first, of course, the machine has to be made, which is where the Kickstarter comes in. Starting at $300, you can get one of these of your very own. But you will have to move quickly; the Kickstarter has already almost doubled the requested amount of funding, so we’re guessing it’s going to be a bit harder to get this than just grabbing one from Amazon, at least for a while.
