Attention Apple die-hard fans! Sotherby’s is currently holding an auction for a limited edition Jony Ive and Marc Newson Mac Pro that they’ve created especially for the Product (RED) Auction 2013. Apple’s senior vice president of design Ive and designer Newson have teamed up to design this one-of-a-kind red Mac Pro that features the new innovative cylindrical design that’s coated in a shiny red finish to match the style of other Product (RED) items produced by Apple for the auction. The auction site has the item’s value listed at $40,000-$60,000 and will be auctioned off on November 23 with the other RED items.
Apple announced that they will officially launch the new Mac Pro to the world this December, so it’s unclear if the lucky winner will get their beloved Mac Pro sooner than the official launch date. The auction listing doesn’t list the specs, but Apple said they’ll start at $2,999 when launched and that they’ll be available in a variety of configurations. The entry level one will feature a 3.7 Ghz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs, 12 GB of memory, and 256 GB of PCIe-based flash storage, while the higher level one will start at $3,999 and come with a 3.5 Ghz 6 processor with 16 GB of memory, with optional upgrades including, 8-core or 12-core Xeon E5 processors, AMD FirePro D700 GPUs, up to 64 GB of memory and up to 1 TB of flash storage. Other products that the two teamed up for include: a one-off Leica camera, aluminum desk and some solid gold Apple EarPods. Proceeds from the auctioned items will go to Product (RED), which is an Apple charity partner.
