We admit that floor models and production concepts are more goofy and fun than anything we take seriously. After all, would you take half the stuff you hear about from auto shows for a test drive? That said, Dethleff’s at least knows how to deliver a goofy idea: They packed a theater into a camper.

OK, So More Of A Man Cave

To be fair, this isn’t technically a movie theater. Technically speaking, it’s actually a man cave or a den with a television in it with a movie theme. But man, is it ever elaborate. It starts with the look of the camper; there are seven red leather fold-down seats, a curtain you can draw across the television, and even a snack bar with a soda fridge (branded by Coca-Cola, no less) and a popcorn maker.

Comfortable Film Watching On The Road

Then, of course, we’ve got the actual film-watching itself. The camper has a 3D television installed, complete with surround sound. The TV fills the length of the camper, and the surround sound is, as you might have guessed, calibrated to give some real kick to the proceedings. Finally, as a nice theatrical touch, the whole thing is soundproofed and has black paneling, just like a real movie theater.

The Portable Filmgoing Experience

Needless to say, this is mostly Dethleff showing off; there aren’t any plans to bring a camper for film freaks to the open market. They just wanted to show off what they can do oriented around a theme. But either way, it’s still an entertaining concept to think about, and it might even actually get made, if somebody wants to haul around a small movie theater showing people films. The way movie theaters are going, that might be pretty much the only way to do it.
