Squirrel Wingsuits Are Just Awesome

At this point, we’re all familiar with squirrel wingsuits from video games. They were a great way to get around the massive world of Far Cry 3 and they were in one of the Call of Duty games. We can’t remember which; those things tend to blend together. The point is, we know about them, but believe it or not, they are actually commercially available for those insane enough to buy them. And Squirrel (yes, there is a wingsuit company named Squirrel) has just put out a new wingsuit for those of us insane enough to jump off a mountain wearing one of these things.

Basically, the Aura is designed for BASE jumpers; or, if you’re into honesty over brevity, “those crazy guys who jump off cliffs with parachutes strapped to their backs.” It’s essentially designed from the ground up to make jumping off a cliff with what amounts to a highly advanced blanket strapped to your back as safe as doing something like this can actually be. The inlets, where the suit takes in air to ensure you don’t just plunge like a rock, have been stiffened, for example, and it’s easier to deploy a parachute for those moments when you don’t want to crash into the ground.

Also, they’ve placed a storage pocket right near your center of gravity. Since that means it’s over your crotch, they’ve just stopped goofing around and called it a Nutsack. So if you mount your GoPro in it, does that make it a Nutshot?

OK, so this probably isn’t a gadget for everybody, and you won’t be able to go sailing off the top of your office tower and glide home. On the other hand, if you want to resist gravity, or feel like Batman, this is probably the safest way to do it.
