Tablet designers spend year carefully shaping and reshaping the shell of your device. They study materials science, draft multiple designs, and finally release their years of work to the public… only to see people immediately buy the tablet and slap it in some hideous case because they’re worried about dropping it and being out six hundred bucks. Lifeproof may not be able to solve this problem, but they can at least limit it and protect your iPad Mini at the same time with new versions of their popular cases built specifically for the little tablet.
First up is the Nüüd case, which is pretty much what it sounds like. Except not sexy, unless you’re one of those people that describes everything as “sexy”, in which case, STOP.
Anyway, the Nüüd is so-called because the technology puts a waterproof seal on your iPad Mini, but it doesn’t require any sort of screen covering. This has the distinct advantage of cutting down on glare and other problems cases can present in trying to use your Mini. And you don’t sacrifice much: Lifeproof claims their cases are dirt-proof, drop-proof, waterproof and snow-proof. Although really you shouldn’t be using your iPad on the slopes.
If that’s a little more naked than you like your consumer electronics, though, there’s always the Fre. Needless to say, this does have a screen cover, but it does at least offer complete scratch protection so that your screen is always in top condition. Beyond that it’s exactly like its more free-spirited brother; everything-proof and backed by Lifeproof.
The Cost of Nüüdity
So, you want to get one of these cases? Be prepared to pay for your freedom: The Frē will run you $100, while Nüüdity will cost you $120. On the other hand, you get to drop all sorts of tasteless puns that will annoy those around you with these cases, and you can’t put a price on that.
