BMW revealed its i8 on the first day of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, which is a long-awaited plug-in hybrid sports car that everyone has been buzzing about. It’s powered by a .5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine that churns out 231 hp by itself that is sent to its rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

There’s also an electric motor that adds 131 hp through through a two-speed automatic to the front wheels. Total system power is 362 hp, which allows it to go from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds. It also boasts a fuel consumption of a whopping 94 mpg, making it a fast and efficient sports car. Like other recent BMW models, it will feature a pair of driving mode controllers: Driving Experience Control switch and the eDrive button that puts it into EV mode. The i8 will start at $135,700, making it the second most expensive vehicle of the BMW range behind the 760Li. It’ll hit the U.S. in the spring of 2014.
