SteelSeries Siberia Elite There’s a first time for everything. For gaming peripheral pros – SteelSeries, their latest first comes by way of a new 7.1 gaming headset similarly dubbed the Siberia Elite Gaming Headset. Announced today in Cologne Germany–at Gamescom 2013, this new set of multichannel cans will produce virtual surround sound thanks to Dolby®. The tech from San Francisco’s Dolby will convert multichannel sound from your favorite media in to 7.1 multichannel surround sound through the Siberia Elite gaming headset. It all thanks to Dolby Pro Logic IIx. If used well this will enhance the audio from your movies, music and games, converting stereo and 5.1 surround into–hopefully–impressive 7.1 surround sound.

It’s also sporting a completely new design and aesthetics. It’s a handsome departure from the now-mundane look of the original Siberia line. From the images sent, you can see an increased amount of padding for comfort, new illumination on the earcups and what appears to be puffier ear cushions. Thankfully the tried and true retractable mic makes a welcomed return.

But that’s not it. The Siberia Elite also introduces the new SteelSeries Engine 3. With this set of utilities, SteelSeries boasts access to the full complement of features found on the new headies. There are visual enhancements you can make to tweak the colors emitted. Choose and mix up pigments from 16.8 million color to light up the outside earcups. Plus you get an assortment of mic settings such as active noise cancelling (ANC), mic compression, feedback and the like.

The SteelSeries Siberia Elite is $199.99 MSRP and will be available for pre-order starting in September 2013.
