Update 8/26: FFXIV: AAR producer & director Naoki Yoshida has issued an apology to players on the NA/EU servers over the weekend’s early access data center connection issues.

For those that have been eagerly awaiting Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn early access, the initial server problems during launch have now come and went. There was so many people around the world blitzing the server that emergency server maintenance started up early this Saturday morning with this message for NA/EU servers:

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. [Date & Time] Aug. 24, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (PDT)

Thankfully it looks as if server issues were resolved properly and the emergency maintenance was resolved by 9:55AM Pacific.

If you’re having INSTANCE issues, don’t fret – Square Enix is aware of the problem and they are addressing it. As of 12:58PM, there may be another emergency maintenance upcoming so plan your play time accordingly.

If You’re Still Trying to Setup FFXIV: AAR

Final Fantasy XIV Beginner's Setup Guide

Square Enix has launched a helpful official setup guide walking you through getting setup. We’ve gone through the list and added some more helpful setup for those that have pre-order:

  1. Buy the Game (duh). Best deal currently for standard edition is $24 while collector’s edition is $40. Use coupon code GMG20-KCDKK-H4TPB
  2. Install the Game. If you bought a physical copy, simply slap it in the DVD drive and follow the install prompt. If you bought the game digitally, you’ll need to download and install the game client.
  3. Setup Square Enix Account. No matter the platform, you’ll be needing a Square Enix account to play FFXIV: AAR. Set up here.
  4. Claim Pre-Order Code. Want in on early access? You’ll need to claim your pre-order code and attach it to your Square Enix account. Head here to get started.
  5. Register Your Game. The game key is a 20 character alphanumeric code. Remember, your pre-order code is different than your game key. If you’re playing early access, you have until Aug 30th to setup the game key in your Square Enix account.
  6. Starting the Game. There’s a specific guide for playing on Windows and playing on PlayStation 3. Chose accordingly :)

Extra Helpful Tips on Early Access and Account Setup

  • If you’re having problems with ERROR 3, here’s a fix from the user forums. Basically, set your profile to English (US) vs English (UK) when you try to setup the pre-order code. You’ll find this in the “My Profile” section before you enter your pre-order code.
  • If you somehow setup early access to the WRONG account, you have a ONE TIME fix ability. Head to the support center and follow the instructions listed here.
  • Make your login life easier by setting up the ONE-TIME password token. You’ll need an iOS or Android device. Details here. This will also be a second security layer, reducing the chance that your account gets “hacked” (aka password stolen from phishing emails).
  • Want to know the difference between the pre-order bonuses? Check out the comparison between the standard and collector’s edition.

NEED HELP!… I’ve just got FF14: a realm reborn for my PS3 and I’m having problems with my registration code… It keeps say it “may no longer be valid” how can this be when I just got? please comment if you have any suggestions on what Im doing wrong

  2. I hear that Early Access (EA) has been extended to the 29th. As a customer who has already purchased a physical copy of the game from the stores (bought mine in Singapore) but wasn’t eligible for EA, does that mean that I can now only play on the 29th? – Has the launch date changed at all?

  3. Still unable to log in as of 6:30pm EST. When will game developers realize that opening dates of game releases are like first impressions – you only get one chance.

  4. Stopped reading at: ‘problems’ (plural) has (singular)’. If you do not know how to write, don’t try.

Honestly the best move is cancel the preorders before they get charged and you lose part of your 30 days free and wait a few weeks until the environment is stable enough to play……Hmmmm I wonder if presales started dropping and cancellations started rolling in whether these MMO companies would finally get the message about a clean(er) launch for end users……
Maybe they would stop treating their paying customers like sheep???

    • I think you may have meant, Guinea Pig, not Sheep…would have worked perfect…I’ve been playing since Saturday and I am already Level 15, have put in a lot of hourse

      • I think you meant hours, not hourse. Would have worked perfect…. also, he used sheep as the term for gamers who follow publishers like fanboys, never asking questions and taking any crap given to them. The use of guinea pig actually makes no sense in this conversation…..so yeah….

  6. So you said there is a one time fix if i accidentally used early code on wrong account. Thing here is i bought EU FFXIV from GMG. I activated it (this is where mistake happens) on a US account THROUGH the EU preorder link. (I didnt know that account was US region, my mistake there but its their mistake that the game code isnt region locked) so when i tried to enter early access code on that same account it didnt work cuz diff region. What i did is i made a new account which is EU region and used the early access code on that. What should i do? i have EU game activated on US account and my EU early access code activated on a new EU account i made. Should i go for the one time fix thing and hope they can transfer my EU early access code to the US account which has the EU FFXIV activated on?

    • Just wanted to add that im already downloading the game, the EU account worked to login on launcher. I dont know if that account gets 30 days free. Or it just has early access and thats it for that account. Please help.

  7. Noone is able to log in to the NA/EU servers right now – no info on a maintenance, just that they are working on it. I was in game and got an error code reportedly resolved in Phase 4 – 90000 and 10102 error. The game is excellent however, SE made a huge mistake on putting so much demand on a single “off load” server and should have been anticipated from the beginning as this is for both solo and group instancing for all servers.

  8. NA/EU not abel to connect to servers 7:51 AM MT time. REally sucks since this is my only day off to try and even get ahead in this game

    • Yeah that sucks :( although if no one else is able to log I suppose no one is really getting ahead. One other thing everyone else should note is that you have until Aug 30 to put in your final game key during early access… so potentially 3 more days of free game time (e.g. versus activating it on August 27).

  9. Total of 3 emergency maintenances today. One of them is tonight so I hope the game is working fully by tomorrow or they might as well start working on FF14 3.0 because this is ridiculous.

  10. THE NA/EU servers still aren’t working for me and I have reloaded the game.. turned my playstation off, and tried everything. It is 12AM on the 25th of August where I live now in Ireland which is in the EU and I still cant get a server and into the game worlds….. very frustrating and makes me think my pre-order was a waste of time. Hopefully it will be working tomorrow when I awake so I might get to play it a little before I go back to work on Monday :( Very disappointed..

The servers are “working” here in Michigan/United States but most of them are completely full- we can’t get IN to play, but the servers are loading on the game. Not much of a point if you can’t even play!
