I’ve never flown Southwest Airlines.  But when I do, I’ll now be able to stream live TV and order up to 75 on demand TV shows directly to my iPhone, Nexus 4, iPad or really any WiFi enabled personal device in my possession.

Southwest Airlines teamed up with DISH, and is providing the service for free on all 400 of Southwest WiFi enabled airplanes.  To help kick things off, the guys from the DISH’s “Hoppa” commercials greeted 100 passengers with a free iPad 2 at an airport today.  Unfortunately, it would appear that the promotion, which as of right now doesn’t have an end date, doesn’t include free WiFi for surfing the Web, an $8 fee per flight.

DISH or Southwest didn’t say when or what app will be required to access the free live TV service.  And while DISH’s Hopper DVR allows you to access recorded shows from any where there is an Internet connection – this promotion is designed to promote just that service – your access will be limited to Southwest’s free live TV and on demand shows.
