Many of us would like to own Iron Man’s armor, whether to fight the forces of evil represented by smarmy men in bad suits, or simply to fly to work and/or use repulsor blasts on that annoying neighbor who won’t stop playing Nickelback at top volume.
Sadly, you won’t be able to do that any time soon, thanks to both the limits of scientific knowledge and the fact that the cops frown on property destruction, even if it’s really funny property destruction. But you will be able to get your very own life-size statue of Iron Man’s Mark 42 armor, from “Iron Man 3″. So that’s almost as good. Almost.
The statue comes from Sideshow Collectibles and, if you know Sideshow at all, you know a lot of work went into getting things right on this. The arc reactor and eyes, for example, both have LEDs that light up, for that realistic feeling. No, it does not come with an arc reactor. You have to plug it in. Beyond that, it’s patterned to be just like the movie prop, so you can claim it as authentic, even if it won’t fly.
At seven feet tall and 105 pounds, it’s certainly a beefy collectible. The manufacturing is being done by Beast Kingdom, well known in the collectible scene for their work, and the result of that size and shipping is that you’ll need to live in the contiguous US to buy this, and also you’ll need to put it together yourself, as it ships in three cartons.
But, really, it’s a conversation piece, and who wouldn’t want to spend $8500 on a collectible that’ll get people talking? You can own your own piece of Tony Stark in the next few months.
