My love for the HTC One is well known and repeatedly documented. Several ed. pieces are often “enthusiastically” referenced by One-naysayers. We like to make things easy for our readers, even ridicule. Interestingly, HTC has a similar idea. Like myself, many have salivated over the HTC One and it’s unibody design, front facing speakers, edge-to-edge display and slick BlinkFeed UI. But the One is s premium device without question. It is a titan hunter forged to fell the mightiest of smartphones, starting with Apple’s iPhone 5 and then on to a stalemate with the Galaxy S4.

Now HTC has One-like design in a more coin-conscious variant. This is the HTC One Mini. The One Mini is a 4.3 small unit with a lesser-but-capable Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor at 1.4Ghz with 2GB of RAM. It still sports the front-facing BoomSound speakers. The design is essentially the same but in a smaller form factor– like it was hit with a shrink ray. The buttons and ports were kept in the same locations. But now the industrial design includes aluminum for the back and polycarbonate for the front edges and side pieces. It’s clearly smaller but also a bit thinner. The display tech is dialed down as well. The One mini does 720p on it’s S-LCD3 panel.

Android lovers rejoice! The HTC One Mini will ship with Android 4.2.2. Other than that and a few other changes such as no IR blaster, the One Mini is shaping up to be a premium mid-range offering. That may sound like an oxymoron, but this one looks really good. The One Mini even retains the Ultrapixel 4mp camera with all the sweet tech that made it great on the One.

The HTC One mini will be available in select markets from August and rolled out globally from September.
