There are few free apps that I’ll waste my time writing about.  After all, they’re free for a reason, right?

However, I’ll make an exception for Gumulon, an app that appeared in the iOS app store yesterday.  So to be candid, the app is designed to promote Stride gum.  What makes it unique, and subsequently worth writing a short piece about, is that it leverages something the company is calling “Chew-tracking” technology.  Chew-tracking technology isn’t any more than motion tracking.  Leveraging the iPhone’s camera, the game’s character (Ace) can be controlled by moving your mouth.  Chew and he jumps.  Don’t chew and he won’t jump.

So needless to say it’s a pretty simple and perhaps lame idea.  Nevertheless, it caught my eye since it’s an interesting marketing angle.
