Sharing your streaming Netflix account is about to become a much more tolerable experience.  Launching sometime this summer, Netflix will begin to offer user profiles.

That means that your ratings will be your own, and your recommended movies and TV show will be more accurately targeted to you, especially if you share your account with someone who tends to watch (and rate) films and shows at the opposite end of the genre spectrum.

Unfortunately, the $8 a month plan will be continue to be limited to two simultaneous streams, though Netflix has yet to say how many profiles each account can create.  That said, it stands to reason that a $12 a month family plan can create more profiles, which in turn will allow parents to better control what their kids are exposed to.

On the business side of things, adding profiles also helps Netflix, since they can better understand who is accessing their system.  In recent months we’ve seen a number of Netflix exclusive shows emerge, with many of them being created as result of extensive market and data driven research.
