adidas wants to take running to new heights with their latest Springblade running shoe that features individually tuned blades which are engineered to help propel runners forward with one of the most effective energy returns ever. Instead of the standard EVA midsoles that provide an energy return in a vertical direction, the Springblade returns it via 16 forward angled blades that are each made from high0tech polymer. The result is highly elastic blades that will immediately react to any environment, compressing and releasing energy to create that efficient push-off that makes it feel as if the runner has springs under their feet.
The construction of the shoe was made specifically to hug the top of a runner’s foot so that it locks in, allowing it to harness the energy that is returned from the springs on the outsole. Each blade on the shoe is precisely tuned in geometry, thickness and position to provide maximum support for each phase of a runner’s stride, resulting in a full range of movement.
To make sure it all worked properly and up to standards, the aIT (adidas Innovation Team) made sure to test out hundreds of materials to ensure each spring produced maximum energy efficiency with every step that a runner made. Rigorous ballistics tests were also conducted to make sure that the blades and the shoes maintained long-lasting durability.
The Springblade shoes will be available on August 1 and will go for $180.
