The easiest way to save money on soda is simple: just don’t buy it. It has no redeeming qualities, unless of course you’re seeking a caffeine high, in which case there are a variety of other options. Nevertheless, this has largely been Soda Stream’s pitch; make your own soda and you’ll save hundreds per year.
I tested out the Soda Stream Revolution machine. I gave it decent marks, though in retrospect, and after continued used I find the process of making each soda a bit cumbersome. Moreover, the soda rarely stays as carbonated after adding syrup to the water. So is there a better alternative?
The SPRiZZi promises to be just that. Instead of requiring you to chill a bottle of water, add CO2, and then syrups, it does it in one go. You simply add water to the machine, a CO2 cartridge wait 30 minutes for it to chill, and bam, it will instantly produce cold carbonated (or not) water. To add syrup you just insert one of their branded syrup shots into the front portal hole and when you a hit button it comes out as soda or one of 60 flavors. In any event, it’s an experience that is more analogous to that of a restaurant soda machine.
Dare I say it’s a refreshing approach to the soda conundrum. Sure, you’ll still have to continue to purchase CO2 tanks, but since they’ll deliver to your house, it negates some of the pain involved with Soda Stream. Furthermore, you can add a water line to the SPRiZZi machine, which means you’ll always have cold water on tap.
If you want your own SPRiZZi you can pledge some of your hard-earned cash at Kickstarter, though expect to spend about $200 ($399 when it goes retail).
