Last night I attended Maxim Magazine’s Maxim 100 event. It took place in Hollywood, CA at the Vanguard, a club that is complete with a stage, outdoor area and in this particular instance an open bar stock to the brim with Jim Beam’s new Ghost Whiskey and variety of other libations. Also on hand was Sony with their latest headphones.
Outside they had a team of girls in beach wear strutting Simon Cowell’s headcans, the X Headphones, which launched a few months ago. They’re available with your choice of either red or black accents and cost $199. I’ve listened to them before and offer a surprising amount of range as well as comfort.
Also on hand was Sony’s newest and yet to be released newest Digital Noise Canceling headphones, the MDR-1RNC. I was able to score a hands on, but due to the excessive amount of noise being pumped out of a set of adjacent speakers I wasn’t able to glean anything beyond their aesthetic appeal, which is a positive one. Feature wise we’re looking at a 30 hour rechargeable battery, 3 distinct active noise cancellation modes (bus, plain, and office), dual noise sensors, an “enfolding design” to help reduce ambient noise, massive 50mm drivers and a gold plated plug.
The MDR-1RNCs ship tomorrow, 5/17, for $399.99. We’ll try and get a hands when they become available.
