Acquired to the tune of $12.5 billion! That’s what search engine and Android OS giant Google paid so Motorola could be called their very own. Yet that was two long years ago–a lifetime in this industry. Ever since, the tech scene has been abuzz with speculations on how Google might turn things around for the former mobile maverick. Motorola hasn’t seen a noteworthy trendsetting entry in the mobile sphere, arguably since the original RAZR flip phone. Is that all about to change? Possibly!

Look what just popped up as an FCC filing last week. It’s the XT1058. Is this the whispered Motorola X mobile phone? The FCC filing flies in the face official statements from House Google, noting their aversion to becoming a mobile device manufacturer. Regardless it does look legit. Other rumors surrounding the Motorola X phone are the possible inclusion of a 4.7-inch display, it being powered by Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. More far-fetched rumor circulating… The Motorola X phone will be indestructible or flexible or both… It’s been said the phone will come in wood and feature untold customization for users.

Hopefully much of this can be confirmed or debunked at Google’s I/O later in the week.
