Video arcades are a bit of a thing of the past. And by past I mean the 80s and 90s. My favorite was a place called Fun and Games in Framingham, MA (we affectionately referred to the town as the slammer, as in ghetto). It was chock full of the latest games, including Virtual Fighter and Mortal Kombat, amongst many other greats. But with the advent of powerful home consoles, video arcades quickly shuttered and for all intents and purposes are now more akin to a museum than a place to go hang out with your friends.
So I can’t help but get all nostalgic when I laid eyes on this father and son arcade located in their basement. Jealous? A bit. If not for the mess of retro games, the ambiance – there is a full on stand up bar and neon lights – is enough to make me pine for a single hour in their family cellar.
That all said, I still think I’d prefer the “every console room“.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
