Generally speaking, Apple puts on a “song and dance” when it comes to product announcements. But every once and a while they sneak a new one in under the radar.
Last night, or yesterday at some point, Apple quietly launched a new iPod Touch. Don’t get too excited, though, as it’s not an evolutionary leap. In fact, it’s sort of a step back. The new iPod touch sports the same A5 processor, but lacks the high rez camera and is limited to a mere 16GB of storage. The 1.2mp front facing camera is still present, as is the WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 4-inch IPS display and lightning connector.
It’s conjecture, but this device could be evidence that Apple is closer to launching a music streaming service, which requires little to no storage. Then again, since this iPod Touch lacks 3G or 4G connectivity, it very well maybe a means to draw in the crowd that can afford a more reasonable price point; $229. Nevertheless, with Spotify loaded up, and with a premium account selected, you can download songs to the device, which means it’s still applicable to the first aforementioned scenario.
The new iPod Touch is available now. Just note that it only comes in black and silver (not black or silver).
