You know Rdio. If not, then you wound us deeply. We’ve covered the Pandora competitor in numerous ways in just the last year. You can find service details and comparisons to similar services such as Rhapsody, MOG and Spotify. Today the company has taken media streaming to a new level by previewing their new Vdio service to their current Rdio Unlimited subscribers, effectively beating Spotify to the rumored punch.
Vdio is a new way to rent, buy and share your precious film and television content with friends and purportedly in real-time. A quick look reveals a handsome interface–unsurprising from the Rdio crew. But it’s been structured to get you to your favorite shows quicker and easier. Vido introduces “Sets”. These are playlists for TV shows and movies. These playlists can be crafted quickly and shared with friends. You can also check in on what your friends are watching at any given moment and jump right to their show.
Vdio is boasting and hosting some of the newest releases such as Skyfall, Life of Pi and The Hobbit. Plus it will house older but highly favored cult classics and current TV shows like AMC’s The Walking Dead or Showtime’s Homeland and many others. Vdio also plans to add new content on a daily basis.
Right now you need to be a Rdio Unlimited subscriber in the U.S. or U.K. to get a crack at Vdio. But those lucky few will receive a $25 credit to test all Vdio’s glories. There is also a companion app going live today. The service works over the internet using a PC browser or with an iPad.
