Different is good.  Case in point: a lower rider bicycle that comes packaged like a model airplane, that you assemble yourself.

What you’re looking at is a custom-made beech plywood frame bicycle that took first place in the bicycle segment of the IBDC ( International Bicycle Design Competition in Taipei) 2013.  The components come in a box and need to be cut out and then put together to form a working bicycle.

It’s not clear if we’ll ever see the Sawyer Lowrider bicycle go on sale here in the US, or anywhere for that matter, but it’s a nostalgic idea that taps into the sensibility of those that grew up building model airplanes and things alike.  Moreover, the use of wood, instead of a steel frame, provides it with an unorthodox aesthetic.
