So Assassin’s Creed IV has been officially announced. It will drop October 29th of this year. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. The sequel engine for this and the Call of Duty series have been running at this pace for years. Now we have all come to expect Autumn’s weather change, trick or treating and a new Assassin’s Creed game. I know! It just seems like yesterday we kicked out our meta review for the official 3rd run of Assassin’s Creed. That’s ancient history in this industry.
Just as you became endeared to the cool gritty and biracial Ratonhnhaké:ton, with all his Native American Badassery, Ubisoft throws us another veritable curve ball. This time you’re stepping in your Grand Pappy’s pirate boots as Captain Edward Kenway takes the lead. This is the father of Haytham Kenway, the character whose shoes you walked in for far too long in the beginning hours of Assassin’s Creed 3.
Ubisoft has come clean, stating production for this one began in 2011. From the onset they wanted it to be a pirate game and it departs drastically from the 3rd installment in gameplay and open world mechanics. So much so, they felt AssCreed 4 was deserving of a full numbered title as an official sequel.
