Some of the best games ever created were on systems from my youth and youn adulthood. Nintendo, Sega Master System, Gensis, Gameboy were not necessarily the first of their kind but they definitely paved the road for the subsequent generations to come. These devices still hold millions in their captivating grip. I know gamer/carpenters who will repurpose whole dressers and cabinets to create a retro gaming system or army of systems–like this thing or even this little thing.

Do your lumbar region a solid, old man–before you eletrocute yourself and check out the new Retron 5 from Hyperkin. The Retron 5 has an additional slot from the cool but less so Retron 4. This new slot is for Super Famicom games. Super Famicom is basically the Japanese Super Nintendo system before it was redressed for its stateside release. So now the Retron 5 will play games for Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Super Famicom, Famicom, Mega Drive (Japanese Sega Genesis), Gameboy Advanced, Gameboy Color and Gameboy games.

The Retron 5 uses different chipset than found on each of the individual device. This way it can ensure there are no region-lock issues and all game will run. It doesn’t matter if your region is PAL or NTSC. The Retron 5 is striving for 100% compatibility. It features a compliment of port options including, AV output, HDMI, USB and controller ports corresponding to each system family.¬†You can overclock the system to some degree old game visuals are enhanced by upscaling to 720p through the use of shaders.
