“Yeahe…! There’s a dog on your balls!” So says “Colonel Stars and Stripes” played by none other than the peerless Jim Carrey in the upcoming film Kick-Ass 2. This is the anticipated sequel to writer Mark Millar and comic veteran John Romita Jr.’s Marvel comic adaptation of the same name–where an everyday teen decides to don a self-made costume and attempts to kick ass in the name of fighting crime, albeit with no superpowers to speak of. Kick-Ass 2 is based on both comics books Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass–both by Millar and each will be sharing the spotlight. The film boasts a star-replete cast with names like J. Carrey mentioned above, John Leguizamo, Christopher (McLovin) Mintz-Plasse, Clark Duke and Ken (Chow) Jeong from the Hangover movies.
These movies have steered more toward comedy relief than the comic books ever intended. Gone is brutal over-the-top bloodletting. Yet the penchant for over-the-top violence sans the blood is retained from the previous movie. So is much of the production staff. Mathew Vaughn and Brad Pitt are back in the directors chairs along with Adam Bohling and Raquin Pack.
It’s no surprise Kick-Ass 2 will hit the UK first–being the writer’s own stomping grounds. So Brits get it July 19 of this year and we yanks wait until the 16th of August.
