FireStar Firestar Fire Piston: Start a Fire in 100MPH Winds (video)

A fire can mean the difference between death and life.  But if winds are a tearing the roof of your tent, there is more than a strong likelihood that they’ll only thing you’ll be able to get started is a half-assed dance party.

The FireStar Fire Piston works no matter how windy it is since the tinder is contained inside an aluminum block.  To activate it you just pop the piston from the casing and drop the lit tinder into a pile of pine needles, or whatever dry fuel you can conjure up.  Finally, you’ll need to employ some blowing and fanning to reach ignition.

You can grab one for about $60 in red, black, or silver.
