You’re out with friends and having a great time. You drove to the function with no intention of drinking. But one thing leads to another Vodka and Red Bull and another Cosmo and another shot of Grey Goose.  Before you know it, “Presto!” You my friend, are sh*tfaced.

Or are you? There’s always that hollow but inflated confidence that inebriation bestows the unassuming drinker.  But before you make a bad decision that will probably see you and your ride joined in a matrimony of reticulated steel and freed internal organs, try this. It’s the Breathometer  breathalyzer plug-in for iOS devices.

Available now for preorder, the Breathometer breathalyzer is the latest smartphone tech to enter the crowdfunding oven at Indiegogo. It’s touting itself as the world’s first smartphone breathalyzer. Not quite. But it is the tiniest. Judging from the working prototype, its width roughly matches that of the iPhone and it plugs into the device’s 3.5mm headphone jack.

It seems to be coming together rather nicely. The company only needs $25,000 to reach their goals. Moreover they promise new features such as “push a button cab service” for the companion smartphone app. Drop some financial support and be eligible to purchase a unit for only $20 when it ships January of next year.

The company had this to say about the Breathometer Breathalyzer,

Breathometer is the next generation breathalyzer that provides an accurate BAC measurement that enables smarter decisions… By using Breathometer, you now have the ability to help prevent accidents. We’re also building some other amazing features like a push of a button cab service.

Android loyalists, don’t feel rained-on. the company promises the unit will be Android-friendly when it launches.
