This is LEGO‘s newest creation: the Star Wars inspired Red Five X-wing Starfighter. While I can’t attest to being a die-hard LEGO fan, at least not any longer, it does look damn cool, as well as detailed.
Much like the movie prop, the wings of the Red Five X-Fighter open and close dependent on the flight path and the pilot’s need for maneuverability versus speed, or one would assume. That said, a knob at the back activates this feature, and thanks to a counter weight design it looks like the wings will open and close with relative ease and not fail after a few attempts.
Size wise the Red Five X-wing Starfighter measures over 10″ (26cm) high, 20″ (52cm) long and 18″ (46cm) wide. Included in the 1,558 piece set is a special display stand, data sheet label and your very own R2-D2 character (I’m not sure if it’s a mini fig of some sort).
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until May, whereupon you’ll be able to purchase the LEGO Red Five X-wing Starfighter for 200 smackers.
