Samsung’s ATIV Odyssey Gets a Price and Release Date on VZW; $50, January 24th (video)
If you’re in need of a Windows 8 phone but not willing to drop $100+, look no further than Samsung’s ATIV Odyssey. This budget friendly phone is coming to Verizon Wireless tomorrow (January 24th) for $49.99 on contract. Course, you’ll need to send in a $50 mail-in-rebate, and that means dropping $100 up front.
Spec wise the ATIV Odyssey ain’t too shabby for its rather low price tag. The form factor, or design are rather questionable, but as they say “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Powering this device is a dual-core 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. The AMOLED screen measures 4-inches diagonal, and it boasts an 800×400 resolution. Camera wise you’re looking at a 5-megapixel shooter on the back, and a 1.2 megapixel one on the front for self portraits. A microSD card slot allows for up to a 64GB card, while 8GB of built-in storage might suffice for most. The ATIV Odyssey is global ready – according to VZW it will work in over 220 countries – and includes a 2,100mAh battery, which in theory should keep the ATIV Odyssey charged up for more than 24 hours with moderate use. Did I mentioned that it supports LTE connectivity as well?
That all being said, I’d expect the ATIV Odyssey to drop in price by as early as next week and sell for $0, with a rebate, on sites like Amazon and Wirefly. I guess it just depends how fast you want to jump into a new Windows 8 phone.
